Chapter 18

Lauren reached out and, right in front of everyone, picked out the cash. Clearly a goddess, yet she acted just like a female version of Pan Kong Song, wetting her fingers with saliva to count the money: “Three thousand two hundred RMB? And six steel coins? That’s not even enough for me to buy a piece of clothing. You poor Pan Jun…”

Kevin Clark felt wronged—this was all the RMB he had, earned legally, not like going to America and coming back with a million bucks in stinky cash.

In the distance, Brian Carter, Eric Bennett, and John Harris, who had just woken up, watched the whole scene unfold from afar, then exchanged bewildered glances.

“I heard that after getting married, if a man gets a hundred bucks a month as pocket money, that’s already a fortune?”

“My grandpa’s second uncle only gets ten bucks a month.”

  “…Wasn’t it five?”

The three of them sighed quietly and all let out a collective, “Sigh!”

Chapter 13: Heading to the Angel Nebula

“Brother Ge—no, Brother Lun.” Kevin Clark put on a fawning face, full of flattery: “Lend me two hundred for an emergency, or even a hundred would do.”

It was their first morning back at Super God Academy.

There were a few fewer people in the classroom, just some background characters and nobodies—no one paid attention.

“No money.” Brian Carter gave a wry smile. “Really, I don’t.”

Kevin Clark turned to face Eric Bennett, swallowed hard, forced a smile, and then flattered him: “Brother Xin…”

“Is that the tone you use to borrow money?” Eric Bennett had his legs propped up on the desk, full of mischief: “Call me daddy.”

“G, you’re testing my temper!” Kevin Clark suddenly stood up, walked over to Eric Bennett, pressed down on his head, and started flicking his forehead: “Call me daddy! If you don’t, I’ll turn you into a foreigner!”

“What—what kind of foreigner?” Eric Bennett’s head hurt from the flicking. “You mean Shakyamuni, right?”

“Isn’t Shakyamuni a foreigner?” Kevin Clark kept flicking Eric Bennett’s head. “And you still talk back? Hurry up and call me daddy!”

“He’s a Buddha.” John Harris was especially flashy today, wearing a shiny gold suit, looking like he was enjoying the show: “Tsk tsk, all of you chasing girls, living such miserable lives.”

Brian Carter was a true Pan Jun, still relying on his parents for his monthly living expenses.

Kevin Clark could make money, but the problem was he was being watched. Abroad, he could spend US dollars freely, but at home, he couldn’t spend as he pleased—otherwise, he’d be accused of disrupting the financial system.

“Here, I’ll give it!” Eric Bennett was pinned to the ground, struggling to pull out his wallet, and with trembling hands, handed over a pink RMB note: “My god! These days, the one borrowing money is the real boss.”

At the back row of the classroom, Sophie Smith pursed her lips as she watched the four of them fool around. She had just checked her own purse—only twenty-six yuan left. Her previous savings had either gone to topping up her data or paying rent with borrowed money, leaving her with nothing to buy more data for streaming. All she could do was daydream during class.

“Your grandpa will always be your grandpa!” Kevin Clark smugly flicked the pink RMB note with his finger. “Barbecue tonight, everyone pays their own share!”

Brian Carter’s face changed at that, and after standing up, he walked over to Eric Bennett, who had just sat back down, dropped to his knees, and respectfully called out, “Daddy!”

“……” Eric Bennett was full of question marks: “You…”

John Harris was stunned at first, then clutched his stomach, shaking with laughter. He didn’t sit properly and ended up falling to the floor, convulsing like he was having a seizure.

“Money!” Brian Carter was all sincerity: “A hundred bucks.”

“No, wait…” Eric Bennett was totally confused as he handed Brian Carter another pink RMB note: “We were just messing around…”

Brian Carter ignored him, and once again respectfully called out, “Daddy.”

“You… you, you’re out of your mind!” Eric Bennett kept backing away, dodging Brian Carter, and finally just threw his wallet over: “Lun, what’s gotten into you?”

“AA system, but I want to pay for Qiangwei’s share.” Brian Carter happily pulled a bill from the crocodile—or was it fake?—anyway, from the wallet, stood up, and tossed the wallet back to Eric Bennett: “You single dogs have no idea how hard it is to chase a girl.”

“Exactly, single dogs, you don’t know how hard it is to be chased by a girl.” Kevin Clark had already returned to his seat, looking miserable: “The goddess keeps warning me—my salary card, bank card, WeChat, Alipay, all have to be managed by her. I figure she’s just too good at spending money, always finding ways to squeeze me dry.”

Eric Bennett and John Harris exchanged a glance and shouted together: “You two traitors, reeking of love, are hereby stripped of your right to live in dorm B210!”

A female voice suddenly called out: “What traitors? What rights?”

Everyone looked toward the classroom door and saw Miss Teacher. No one panicked; they all greeted her with big smiles.

“No noise, review properly.” Miss Teacher looked at Kevin Clark and said gently, “Student Lü, please come with me for a moment.”
