Chapter 4

The two detectives looked at each other, holding back the furious Julia Foster. Forcing down their anger, they scraped together over two thousand yuan and handed it to Alice Parker: “Hey man, this should be enough for your car repairs.” But in their hearts, they were thinking, this kid better not get into trouble and fall into our hands again.

Alice Parker took the money, folded it up with a grin, and casually tossed it back toward Julia Foster. As she instinctively caught it in confusion, he smirked mischievously: “Hey, lady, why don’t you use this money to buy some TaTai Oral Liquid, help balance your hormones. You know, as a woman, it’s better to have a little more estrogen.”

Lady… TaTai Oral Liquid? Hormones? Julia Foster’s previously relaxed expression instantly stiffened again.

The two detectives were also dumbfounded, their mouths twitching uncontrollably—this guy was really something else. He actually dared to tease the police squad’s famous female tyrannosaurus like this. You know, in the entire police force, no one has ever dared to vent their anger loudly when Julia Foster was in a bad mood. Take TaTai Oral Liquid to boost estrogen? What kind of brain does this guy have?

While Julia Foster was still frozen in shock, Alice Parker jumped into his car, quickly started the engine, and stuck his head out seriously: “Oh right, I have another very sincere suggestion, please listen.”

Originally, Julia Foster was pale and ready to charge at him, but hearing his polite and earnest tone, she couldn’t help but pause.

“The twenty-first century is very dangerous, you’d better hurry back to the Cretaceous period.” Alice Parker put on a serious face: “That’s your real paradise.”

As Julia Foster roared and tried to rush over to take him down, all she could see was his arrogant exhaust pipe. After all that commotion, the timing had missed the worst of the traffic, and the road was much clearer. Otherwise, Alice Parker wouldn’t have been able to escape so easily.

“Captain, let it go, don’t stoop to his level.”

“Captain…”

The two detectives, with wry smiles, desperately held back their former captain. But that classic line about the Cretaceous period made both of them secretly chuckle, feeling a deep sense of camaraderie.

Chapter 3: The Ice-Queen-Like Wife

Huahai City, Maoyuan Building.

This was where Alice Parker worked—a 39-story integrated office building, with a total floor area of over 50,000 square meters. In this prime downtown area where every inch of land is precious, the market value of this office building alone exceeded 700 million. Clearly, Maoyuan Group was no ordinary company.

After parking his ill-fated, battered Bora in the company’s underground garage, Alice Parker strolled into the office carrying his now-cold breakfast.

“Morning, Xiao Jiajia.” He greeted the receptionist warmly. Although Alice Parker had only been at the company for just over two months, he was already on friendly terms with everyone.

“Alice Parker, still calling it morning?” The receptionist, Emily Harris, was a young woman fresh out of college, with a round face and a sweet smile. She chuckled and shook her head: “It’s almost noon already. Why are you late every day? I bet your salary’s going to be negative soon.”

“Nonsense.” Alice Parker’s face suddenly turned serious, and he said earnestly, “Xiao Jiajia, don’t slander me. I’m only late five days a week.”

Emily Harris was momentarily stunned, but quickly caught on. She covered her mouth and giggled: “Alice Parker, you’re so funny.” The other pretty receptionists also covered their mouths, snickering. Clearly, Alice Parker had left a good impression on them. Still, they found it odd—why had this guy, who’d only been here two months and was just a regular employee, not been fired despite being late every day?

“Have you had breakfast?” Alice Parker smiled, lazily leaning on the front desk. He waved the plastic bag of potstickers in his hand: “Let’s eat together!”

Hearing Alice Parker invite her to breakfast, the young woman blushed. But she quickly waved her hand: “Alice Parker, stop joking. It’s work hours—no way I’d dare eat, even if I had the guts!”

“Xiao Jiajia, it’s rare for Alice Parker to invite you to breakfast.” Another receptionist nudged Emily Harris with a smile: “You really don’t know how to appreciate kindness.”

“If you want to eat, you eat.” Emily Harris blushed, lowered her head, and shot a quick glance back at him. Her lips parted as if to say something, but she hesitated.

“Sigh! We’d love to.” Another receptionist sighed dramatically: “Too bad Alice Parker didn’t invite us.”

Watching them laugh and joke quietly, Alice Parker couldn’t help but shake his head with a smile.

“Alice Parker.” A baritone voice sounded behind him.

Alice Parker turned around and saw a well-dressed, nearly fifty-year-old man in a suit. Of course, Alice Parker recognized him—whether he wanted to or not. After all, this man was his boss’s boss, the General Manager of the Group’s General Affairs Department, Henry Carter.

“Oh, good morning, boss.” Alice Parker quickly bowed with a grin, but anyone could tell he was just putting on a show.

“Morning? You call this morning?” Henry Carter’s usual demeanor changed as he glared at him, his tone stern: “Get back to your post and start working.” But his slightly cloudy eyes kept winking, as if trying to convey something.
