Chapter 7

“This time it’s different. I heard that President Reed has already submitted a report to Chairman Sutton, suggesting that you be advised to resign.” As Little Emily said this, he glanced at Alice Parker with a mix of excitement and suspicion, lowered his voice, and asked, “Tell me, Mr. Parker, what’s your real background? Even Mr. Reed doesn’t have the authority to fire you directly? For such a minor issue, it actually has to go through the chairman?”

On the surface, Alice Parker remained expressionless, but inside he was secretly amused. This is probably the real reason why you, Little Emily, are tipping me off and trying to curry favor, isn’t it? William Reed, as the Deputy General Manager of the General Affairs Department, is one of the company’s senior executives. Of course, he has the authority to dismiss a probationary employee under his department. At most, he’d just give a heads-up to the General Manager of the General Affairs Department, Henry Carter. But for such a trivial matter to go through the chairman—clearly, something is off.

This Little Emily seems clever, but he’s still a bit green. The reason he’s asking is simply to probe Alice Parker’s true identity. He wants to compare David Harris and Alice Parker to decide whom to support. If Alice Parker’s background far surpasses David Harris’s, he’d probably switch allegiance to Alice Parker without hesitation.

A bit too calculating, Alice Parker silently evaluated Little Emily. If it were me, I’d quietly do him this favor first, then watch to see if David Harris could actually get rid of me. Once the situation becomes clear, it’s easy to tell who will come out on top. Why be so impatient?

“I’ll tell you, but you can’t let this out,” Alice Parker looked around deliberately and lowered his voice.

Little Emily’s face lit up with joy. He quickly lowered his head and patted his chest, promising he wouldn’t tell a soul.

“Actually!” Alice Parker kept him in suspense for a while before finally grinning, “My real identity is that I’m Edward Sutton’s son-in-law.”

Chapter 5: The Boss’s Lover

“Mr. Parker, can you be serious for once?” Little Emily put on an exasperated expression. “You’ve been daydreaming too much. But, to be fair, Chairman Mu really is stunning—those popular movie stars can’t compare to her. I think everyone in the company wants to be Chairman Sutton’s husband. But, you can say this to me and that’s fine. If word got out, I bet David Harris wouldn’t be the only one coming after you.”

Sometimes, when you tell the truth, no one believes it.

Of course, Alice Parker didn’t join the company as Edward Sutton’s son-in-law. That identity is still highly confidential—aside from a few people involved, even the company’s senior management doesn’t know. Among the higher-ups, a more common excuse was used: that he was introduced by some unrefusable connection, just another white-collar coasting along and drawing a salary.

Little Emily chatted with Alice Parker for a bit longer. When he saw Sarah Bennett walking over with a stack of folders, he quickly greeted her and then scurried off.

Sarah Bennett, a top graduate from a finance college, interned at Maoyuan Group before graduation and has served the company diligently for six years. She is now the head of the General Affairs Department’s Investigation Team, making her a mid-level manager in the company. Of course, she is also Alice Parker’s direct supervisor, since Alice Parker is currently just an ordinary member of the investigation team.

That being said, although Sarah Bennett is already twenty-eight, she’s still quite attractive. Under her gray-and-white professional attire is a graceful, curvaceous figure. Only a pair of slightly dark-rimmed glasses hides much of her delicate and charming aura, leaving people with the impression that she’s stern and unapproachable. Perhaps she dresses this way to avoid too much unwanted attention, but even so, there are still plenty in the company who secretly admire her.

Of course, this disguise has no effect on Alice Parker. He even knows that there’s a mole the size of a soybean on her shapely left hip.

Not that Alice Parker is some kind of voyeur. It’s just that he doesn’t have the habit of keeping his clothes on when men and women are tumbling in bed.

This all started when Alice Parker joined the company. The ever-meticulous Sarah Bennett naturally couldn’t stand Alice Parker’s laid-back, idle attitude and didn’t treat him kindly at first. But just a few days after Alice Parker started, one night, bored out of his mind, he went to a bar for a drink and happened to run into a drunken Sarah Bennett being harassed. The scenario was cliché, but things played out just as you’d expect. After Alice Parker took her home, she drowsily poured out her heart, and one thing led to another—they ended up spending the night together.

They originally agreed to pretend nothing had happened, but since they worked in the same company and even in the same office area as superior and subordinate, it was impossible to avoid each other. In just a few days, things started heating up again.

They say women hit their sexual peak at thirty, and while Sarah Bennett isn’t quite there yet, once her long-suppressed desires broke free, there was no holding them back. Add in Alice Parker’s experience and skill, and their private encounters became more and more frequent.
