Chapter 13

Henry Walker felt something licking his face. He opened his eyes slightly and saw that it was the golden “slime” right in front of him. The furry, ball-shaped slime was licking Henry Walker’s face with its little tongue.

“Ha, it’s morning already.” Henry Walker gave a wry smile. Seeing the little creature, Henry Walker also realized he wasn’t dreaming.

“Ah! Damn!” As he sat up halfway, Henry Walker was suddenly hit by a wave of dizziness. He pressed his big hand to his forehead. Damn! So hot!

Looks like after a whole day of exhaustion yesterday, his weakened body caught a cold at night because he hadn’t worn any clothes.

On this deserted island, he really had no idea what to do.

It seemed he could only tough it out! As long as he was lucky enough to survive, he’d be fine. Henry Walker gritted his teeth.

“Slime, slime~” The little golden creature nudged Henry Walker with its body, then pointed to three fist-sized crystals behind it—one gold, one green, and one red.

“Huh? Such big gems! Little guy, where did you get them?” Henry Walker asked weakly.

“Slime~ slime~” The little creature pointed to the three-headed dog behind it.

Henry Walker looked over—good grief! Each head of the huge three-headed dog had a fist-sized hole in it. It looked like the little guy’s doing. He really had no idea how the little guy managed it! It seemed these three crystals must have been dug out from the heads of the three-headed dog!

Back when he used to tell stories to little Lier, Henry Walker had read plenty of novels. Now, Henry Walker guessed that these three crystals were probably the legendary “magic crystals”!

However, right now, he had absolutely no use for these things.

“I’ll give them to you, little guy.” Henry Walker tossed the three magic crystals to the little creature.

“Slime??” The little guy looked at Henry Walker, then pointed at the magic crystals, then at itself.

“Ha, you really are intelligent.” Henry Walker chuckled and nodded!

“Slime~ slime~~” The little creature looked extremely happy!

It happily hugged the three magic crystals, and then, its fist-sized body actually melted like flowing water, turning into a puddle of golden liquid that slowly enveloped the three magic crystals.

For a moment, it looked as if the three magic crystals were surrounded by a pool of golden juice.

Henry Walker looked at the little guy in slight surprise, staring at it closely, afraid something might happen to it. Henry Walker cared for this little creature like a child...

Chapter 9: Evolution Failed?

A long, long time passed. Henry Walker, who had been watching the little guy, gradually started to feel tired, and with his cold, he soon drifted off into a dizzy sleep again.

The golden slime was still tightly wrapped around the three magic crystals, just as before.

It didn’t seem to be changing at all, but if you looked closely, you could see it! The magic crystals being enveloped seemed to be a size smaller than when they started!

In other words, the little guy was devouring the magic crystals!

This was also the slime’s special skill—devour and evolve!

As long as you gave them magic crystals, they could transform into this kind of magical beast! But the chance of successful evolution was very small! The higher the rank, the lower the chance!

Slimes could be considered low-tier, mid-level magical beasts!

Their success rate for devouring the magic crystals of low-tier magical beasts was fifty percent.

But when devouring the magic crystals of mid-tier magical beasts, the success rate dropped to just five percent.

For high-tier magical beasts, the success rate was only 0.5 percent!

The higher you went, the lower it got! And when devouring the magic crystals of super-tier magical beasts, the success rate was almost negligible!

At this moment, the little guy was devouring the magic crystals of a mature, super-tier magical beast—the Hellhound! Even among super-tier magical beasts, the Hellhound was a top-ranked existence! Basically, by probability, the little guy was doomed to fail!

However, this little fellow wasn’t an ordinary slime; it had its own intelligence! Whether it would succeed or not was still uncertain!

...

The headache from the cold soon sent Henry Walker into a deep sleep.

He didn’t know when, but Henry Walker felt something licking his face again. He opened his eyes slightly and saw it was the little golden creature.

“Huh, little guy, you’re done already?” Henry Walker propped himself up and reached out his hands to the little creature.

The little guy cooperatively leaped onto Henry Walker’s big hand.

Henry Walker held the little guy, feeling it all over and looking it up and down. After a long while, he found that the little guy hadn’t changed at all.

“Uh, how come there’s no change at all?” Henry Walker muttered in frustration, but then let it go. After all, he hadn’t really expected the little guy to change. If it had turned into that three-headed dog, Henry Walker would have cried his eyes out.

However, Henry Walker didn’t notice that the little guy’s eyes had already turned into golden, green, and red pupils.

The little guy looked at Henry Walker in confusion, then buried its head in Henry Walker’s arms.

“Ha, you must be hungry.” Henry Walker smiled. When he first fought with that big dog, he’d seen a lot of birds startled into flight. That meant there should be plenty of bird eggs in the woods! Wild bird eggs were really nutritious.

Henry Walker got up and shook his head, which felt a bit heavy from the cold.
