Chapter 14

Relying on his memory, Henry Walker arrived at the grove where flocks of seabirds had taken flight yesterday.

Sure enough, there were many bird nests in the grove, filled with lots of eggs and many newly hatched chicks. Henry Walker picked out a dozen or so of the larger eggs and placed them in the coconut shell he had used yesterday, filling it to the brim. He left the newly hatched chicks alone, as they were still too small. Taking the eggs was one thing, but the chicks should be left—he couldn’t wipe out their entire future.

Henry Walker turned around and was startled to find that the little creature from before was following right behind him, holding a small bird egg in its hands and smiling at Henry Walker.

“No way?” Henry Walker rubbed his eyes. Although he knew this little guy was intelligent, he was now actually seeing it smile!

Heavens, am I watching an anime? Henry Walker stared wide-eyed at the little creature. At this moment, its two eyes were squinting together, its mouth stretched in a wide grin, smiling nonstop at Henry Walker. Seriously, this little guy was looking more and more human-like!

Henry Walker bent down and beckoned with his hand. The little creature immediately clutched the egg, tumbled over, and scrambled up Henry Walker’s arm into his embrace, pressing its little head tightly against him. Henry Walker felt a deep sense of satisfaction, gently stroking the little creature’s head as he held it. The little creature seemed to enjoy it too, its two small ears standing straight up, letting out happy, spoiled little moans. Well, with this little guy around, Henry Walker didn’t ask for much else. On this deserted island, having such a clever companion was a blessing.

After filling a coconut shell with eggs, Henry Walker carried the little creature back to where he had slept yesterday. There was still a big dog there, and Henry Walker was really craving that five-spice meat flavor! He didn’t know if eating the three-headed dog would make him grow another head, but when you’re hungry, you can’t worry about that!

Once he reached the big dog, Henry Walker set down the eggs, then gathered some soft grass from nearby bushes to make a bed on the ground. He had wanted to build a tent, but with his cold, he just didn’t have the energy.

Surviving in the wild wasn’t a problem for Henry Walker. He picked up some dry branches and started making a fire by friction, though now he used his military knife to help. The dry grass for kindling quickly caught fire, and as the flames grew higher, Henry Walker grinned from ear to ear. The little creature sat obediently beside him, clutching its egg and watching Henry Walker with a silly look.

Once the fire was going, Henry Walker buried the eggs under the embers, then sat by the fire to watch.

With his cold, he could only rely on this simple remedy, hoping that sweating it out would help him recover.

It hadn’t been long before a tempting aroma wafted from the eggs buried in the fire. Henry Walker quickly dug them out with his rib knife.

Peeling one of the eggs, Henry Walker carefully blew off the ash stuck to it and offered the white, steaming egg to the little creature. The little guy sniffed it cautiously, then reluctantly let go of the egg it was holding and grabbed the cooked egg from Henry Walker, gnawing on it hungrily.

“Little guy! You sure know what’s good!” Henry Walker chuckled, then took a coconut from his waist, poked a hole in it with his bayonet, gulped down some coconut water, and picked up another egg. He peeled it and popped it into his mouth in one go—the eggs were so small, it was just a single bite for Henry Walker.

The little creature’s beady eyes watched Henry Walker with envy. It wanted to swallow the egg whole like Henry Walker, but the egg was just too big for it—even bigger than its little mouth.

Henry Walker ate several eggs in a row and burped contentedly. Seeing the little creature’s expression, he laughed and peeled a few more eggs, placing them beside it. “Silly thing, no one’s going to steal them from you. What’s the rush? Take your time.”

The little creature nodded, as if it understood Henry Walker’s words, and happily gnawed on the eggs.

“Heh.” Henry Walker chuckled softly, then used his rib knife to poke at the fire. Gradually, because of his cold, a wave of drowsiness washed over him, and Henry Walker fell into a deep sleep by the fire once again...

Chapter 10: Beauty Saves the Hero

Henry Walker was sleeping soundly when he was suddenly awakened by the little creature’s urgent cries.

“Hmm?” Henry Walker opened his eyes slightly and looked at the little creature. “What’s wrong, little guy?”

“Slime~” The little creature pushed Henry Walker with its tiny body.

“What’s wrong?” Henry Walker patted his still-dizzy head and asked.

“Sli-me~” The little creature pointed ahead with its little hand.

Henry Walker looked in the direction it was pointing. Crack! Henry Walker froze on the spot as if struck by lightning!

In the direction the little creature was pointing stood a gigantic wolf! But this wolf had the build of an ox and a pair of huge wings!

“A flying wolf?” The term flashed through Henry Walker’s mind.

The magical beast before him was quite famous among magical beasts—it was called a Wind Wolf!
