“By the way, are you going to the class reunion this time?” After about ten minutes of silence, Emily Brooks spoke up.
“Class reunion?” Jason Carter raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, the reunion for Class 1, Senior Year. You didn’t go to the first one after graduation, or the second one either. Now it’s the third year—are you planning to skip again? Some of our old classmates say that any reunion without you just isn’t complete!”
Emily Brooks smiled gently, a look of reminiscence appearing in her beautiful eyes. Back in high school, Jason Carter was really outstanding—otherwise, he wouldn’t have caught her attention.
After thinking for a moment, Jason Carter looked up and asked, “Alright, when and where is it?”
“The day after tomorrow. Give me your phone number, and I’ll contact you then!”
After saying this, Emily Brooks took out her phone. Jason Carter told her his number, and she saved it.
“Okay then, I’ll be in touch the day after tomorrow. I’ve got something to take care of right now, so I’ll get going!”
After Jason Carter finished speaking, he gave Emily Brooks a polite smile, opened the private room door, went to the front desk to pay the bill, and then left.
After Jason Carter left, a trace of loneliness flashed in Emily Brooks’s beautiful eyes, but she quickly returned to normal. Clenching her fist, she said, “If I don’t go wild now, I’ll be old! I’m going for it—just this once. The day after tomorrow, Jason Carter... let’s see how you refuse me!”
With that, she started dialing one number after another on her phone. If Jason Carter were here, he would definitely find the names attached to these numbers very familiar, because these numbers... all belonged to his old classmates from Class 1, Senior Year!
……
Finding a low-profile hotel, Jason Carter checked in.
Why choose a low-profile hotel? Because such hotels don’t require an ID card, and Jason Carter’s ID... is blacklisted!
Carrying a rectangular backpack, Jason Carter entered his room. Once inside, he first checked the entire room. Only after making sure there were no surveillance devices did he take off his soaking wet clothes. (Some small hotels like to install pinhole cameras to watch live feeds!)
Then he opened his backpack. Inside was a disassembled M99 semi-automatic sniper rifle, two Type 92 Chinese-made pistols, and information on the people involved in this mission.
After taking out the documents, Jason Carter read through them again, memorized the details, then went to the bathroom, burned them with a lighter, and flushed the ashes down the toilet.
He took out a photo of Megan Clark from his pocket and studied it carefully.
She was a girl in a white long dress, exuding elegance. Her eyes were clear and bright, her eyebrows gracefully arched, her eyelashes long, her fair and flawless skin tinged with a faint blush, and her thin lips as delicate and dewy as rose petals.
After burning the photo and flushing it away, Jason Carter took out his phone, removed the SIM card, inserted a new one, and dialed a number.
“This is Falcon. I’ve arrived. Where’s the target?” Jason Carter said into the phone.
“Five days from now, there will be a car race in S City. There’s a ninety percent chance the target will show up there.” A voice came through the phone, altered so it was impossible to tell if it was male or female.
“What should I do?” Jason Carter got straight to the point. That’s how soldiers are—no unnecessary words when carrying out a mission.
“Use any means necessary to get close to her, then infiltrate the Lin family and obtain the intelligence we need.”
“Understood,” Jason Carter replied with a nod.
“Remember, you’re allowed to kill during the mission. Anyone who poses a threat to the country or the people, you can eliminate. But remember this: do not harm the innocent, and absolutely do not kill intentionally! Otherwise, when the mission is over, you can expect a summons from the military tribunal!”
With that, the phone emitted a series of beeps. Jason Carter turned off the phone, removed the SIM card, snapped it in half, and inserted the one he had taken out earlier.
Chapter 3: Hei Zi’s Call
After a cold shower, Jason Carter lay on the bed, fiddling with two Type 92 Chinese-made pistols.
He had already disassembled and reassembled these two pistols more than a dozen times, but Jason Carter kept repeating the process, because... his mind was already elsewhere.
Three years ago, on the first day of the senior year semester, Jason Carter was assigned to Class 1, Senior Year.
“Hello, classmate, my name is Emily Brooks! ‘陈’ as in ‘陈躅惭俊彦’, and ‘心怡’ as in ‘一抹桃香舒心怡’!”
The person speaking to Jason Carter was a girl—very pretty, stylishly dressed. Her name was Emily Brooks.
“Hi, my name is...” It was polite to greet each other at the start of a new semester. Jason Carter naturally already knew this girl’s name, since Emily Brooks was the school beauty at the time—everyone knew her.
“Your name is Jason Carter, ‘王’ as in ‘王侯将相’, and ‘宸’ as in ‘绿车随帝子,青琐翊宸机’! Am I right?”
Before Jason Carter could finish, Emily Brooks interrupted him. Clearly, Emily Brooks already knew Jason Carter’s name.
“That’s right.” Jason Carter nodded a bit helplessly. His feelings were complicated—having the school beauty know your name should be something to be happy about, but because of that, Jason Carter didn’t know how to respond.
“Well, now we know each other. Nice to meet you.” Emily Brooks smiled and extended her smooth, jade-like hand to Jason Carter.
