"Where do you live? Let me take you home." Jason Carter knew that the matter of the mission couldn't be rushed, so he offered to take Megan Clark home.
"You... who are you? Why do you have a gun?" Megan Clark put a little distance between herself and Jason Carter, cautiously sizing him up.
Moonlight streamed through the car window, illuminating Jason Carter's delicate features. The black, tight-fitting training suit clung to his body, outlining his well-balanced and athletic muscles.
"Me? Who I am isn't something you need to know. By the way, where do you live? Let me take you home." Jason Carter glanced at Megan Clark. She looked fragile, but she was a very beautiful girl.
"I... I snuck out from home." Megan Clark was very naive and blurted out the truth directly.
"Then tell me your home address, I'll take you back." Jason Carter looked a bit helpless.
"I don't even know if that place counts as home. My dad has bought houses in almost every city, but there's never anyone in them. I don't want to go home. I'm afraid those bad people will follow me there." Megan Clark said in a low voice.
Hearing this, Jason Carter frowned, glanced at Megan Clark, and asked, "How many times has something like this happened to you?"
"The first time. Before, whenever I went out to play, my family would always send someone to follow me." Megan Clark didn't dare look up at Jason Carter, but she felt that the person in front of her was someone she could trust. As for why... she couldn't say.
"I see." Jason Carter nodded and said, "From now on, don't tell people about your family, and don't go out alone."
This girl was too naive, telling so much to just anyone she met. If Jason Carter wanted to use Megan Clark to threaten the Lin family, he would have already succeeded.
"Why are you here? And why did you save me?" Megan Clark might be naive, but she wasn't stupid. Now she was suspicious about why Jason Carter was here and why he saved her.
As soon as she asked, Jason Carter's eyes narrowed, a plan forming in his mind. He casually said, "Since you've told me so much, I'll tell you a little too, but don't tell anyone else! The people who wanted to kill you are my enemies. I was originally following them, but then..."
"I understand, you don't have to say more. I know... knowing too much isn't good." Megan Clark looked at Jason Carter cautiously, her expression growing tense again.
"It doesn't matter if you know. Anyway, we won't see each other again. I'm an assassin!" Jason Carter leaned his face close to Megan Clark, staring into her eyes as he spoke.
"Why... why are you telling me this?" Megan Clark shrank back, like a frightened little rabbit, not daring to look at Jason Carter.
"Because I trust... you probably won't call the police, right? After all, I did save your life, didn't I?" Jason Carter smiled as he spoke.
He told Megan Clark he was an assassin for a reason. He knew that after Megan Clark went home, she would definitely talk to her father about what happened today. By telling Megan Clark he was an assassin, he was also telling her father, laying the groundwork for infiltrating the Lin family later.
"I won't call the police." Megan Clark nodded, then added, "And I have a feeling my father... isn't doing anything legitimate either! The people who used to protect me also had guns. Maybe... the reason those people wanted to kill me this time was because of my father."
After she finished speaking, Jason Carter raised an eyebrow in surprise and glanced at Megan Clark. This girl wasn't stupid after all, she could figure out so much on her own.
"You shouldn't get involved in your father's affairs. If he doesn't tell you, he must have his reasons. Even a vicious tiger won't eat its cubs—a father would never harm his own daughter." Jason Carter said.
By rights, he shouldn't have said this, but he really didn't want to see Megan Clark get involved. If Megan Clark found out her father was dealing drugs, that would make her an accessory for not reporting it.
"Why are you telling me all this?" Megan Clark looked up at Jason Carter and asked.
Jason Carter was momentarily at a loss for words. He glanced out the car window and said, "An assassin's intuition is very sharp. Of course, what I said is just a suggestion. Do whatever you want..."
"Thank you. You're the first person to ever say these things to me." Megan Clark smiled. The moonlight shone on her cheek, and her smile was beautiful.
Hearing this, Jason Carter's expression froze, and he fell silent.
"When I was born, my mother left. My father has always been busy with business. I've never known what motherly love is, or fatherly love! To my father, money is just a number. He thinks that as long as he gives me endless money, I'll be happy, but he doesn't know what I really want."
"Growing up, I had no friends, no one to talk to, no one to teach me anything, and no one ever advised me like you just did. Maybe to you, it was just a casual remark, but to me... it really means a lot."
