“Warrior! You go kill the bugs! I’ll hold off the zombies!” Brian Bolton shouted loudly.
William Carter glanced at him, turned silently, and went to kill the nearest vicious mantis bug.
The vicious mantis bug, seeing someone approach, let out an excited screech, spread its wings, and flew above William Carter, swinging its forelimbs to stab at him!
Throwing axe! No one would have expected that in such a short time, William Carter would actually make a second throwing axe move. The mantis bug, still fluttering in the air, had no way to dodge the incoming axe.
Its carapace could only protect its back; the abdomen, which was in constant contact with the ground, had almost no armor at all. The axe easily pierced through the mantis bug’s jaw, straight into its brain.
Accompanied by a spurt of white fluid, the mantis bug’s corpse crashed heavily to the ground.
“Bugs, such disgusting things.” William Carter kicked over the mantis bug, pulled out the axe embedded in its body, and was about to go slaughter another one when a startled cry came again from the wall.
“Mutant monkey! Mutant mon—” Before the person could finish, a ball of golden light shot past him, and half of his head was already gone.
Not far away, the golden light stopped, revealing a giant monkey over a meter tall, holding half a human brain in its hands and eating it with relish.
Chapter 4: The Asura
Just a few decades ago, people were still enthusiastically cracking open monkeys’ skulls while they were alive, pouring boiling oil over their brains, and eating them while the monkeys were still alive.
And they even called it the Manchu Han Imperial Feast, claiming it was one of the world’s most delicious dishes.
Now, as the mutant monkey savored the human brain it had just hunted, William Carter suddenly felt an urge to bring those people who ate live monkey brains here, to let them see what it’s like when a monkey eats a human brain, to see how they would react. Would they be so scared they’d wet their pants?
William Carter had no way of knowing if those people would wet their pants, but on the scene, there were indeed guards who had already done so. Seeing the corpse of the man whose head had been half smashed off by the monkey fall heavily to the ground, blood pooling everywhere, those with weaker nerves even vomited up their previous meals.
“Mutant monkey! It’s a mutant monkey!” Someone shouted again, emotionally agitated.
A strong body, incredible speed, claws as sharp as knives. William Carter could understand why people were so afraid of the mutant monkey.
If it wasn’t necessary, William Carter didn’t intend to risk his life against this mutant monkey either. But after finishing the human brain, the mutant monkey didn’t attack the guards on the wall, but instead turned its gaze to William Carter.
Seeing the excited and savage gleam in the mutant monkey’s eyes, William Carter knew this fight was unavoidable. Running would only mean a quicker death; only by facing it head-on could he create more room to retreat.
“Come on! Beast! Let’s see which one of us eats the other today!” William Carter provocatively hooked his finger and said, “I’ve never actually eaten monkey brain before!”
The mutant monkey sensed William Carter’s contempt and let out a roar, its golden fur standing on end, making it look like a giant golden ball.
“It’s a pity, given the state of the world right now, even if you really are a golden snub-nosed monkey, you can’t expect any protection.” William Carter said with a smile, his fire axe always ready for attack.
The monkey bared its teeth, the blades in its claws flashing, and its whole body turned into a ball of golden light, pouncing at William Carter even faster than before.
“Die!” William Carter swung his fire axe fiercely before the monkey could get close.
The monkey’s foot touched the ground and it quickly dodged to the side, but a few strands of its golden fur were left behind by William Carter’s axe as trophies.
With its precious fur taken by William Carter, the monkey roared again, darting rapidly around William Carter, never getting close enough to attack.
“Damn! I didn’t manage to kill it.” William Carter, carrying David Clark on his back, was severely limited in his agility and could only stand in place, waiting for the opponent’s attack, unable to make many other moves.
After darting around for a while, the monkey suddenly lunged at William Carter from behind.
“Knew you’d attack from behind!” William Carter grinned, swinging his fire axe backward.
Humans like to attack their enemies’ weak points, and this monkey’s intelligence was no less than a human’s. William Carter had already bet it would go for his weak spot—his back.
When a weakness is so obvious that even the person themselves knows it’s fatal, it usually stops being a weakness and becomes bait to lure the enemy. A skilled hunter wouldn’t attack such an obvious weak point, but would instead create a new weakness in their opponent.
The mutant monkey was clearly not a skilled hunter—at least, compared to humans who study the best ways to kill, the mutant monkey relied more on its physical advantages.
