Chapter 17

The Asura’s body soared into the air, taking William Carter’s strike without any support beneath his feet. The forward momentum was completely neutralized by the blow, and his body landed back on the ground.

“Anger can actually increase his combat power? He’s once again displayed strength beyond my predictions. Such a human is truly terrifying.” Avenger narrowed his eyes and said softly, “In that case, I’d better get a bit more serious.”

William Carter’s arms trembled slightly, the webbing between his thumb and forefinger already split and bleeding from the earlier clash. Avenger once again closed in on the car. William Carter gave a bitter smile, looked at Avenger’s back where David Clark was, and said, “Brother! If we make it out, we’ll still be brothers!”

“No need to get out for that.” Avenger smiled and leapt into the air again, but his expression suddenly changed dramatically. He hurriedly used both hands to pry apart David Clark’s arms, which were locked around his throat, and roared, “Human! Let go! Or don’t blame me for being ruthless!”

David Clark didn’t even know where his strength was coming from. His legs clamped tightly around Avenger’s thighs, and his arms locked around Avenger, pulling back with all his might. In that moment, David Clark realized his strength had returned, surging from within him even stronger than before—so strong that it shocked Avenger.

Seeing this, William Carter hurried to jump out of the car, but Lauren Harris grabbed the steering wheel with one hand and desperately clutched William Carter’s pant leg with the other, shouting, “Don’t go! If you get out, we’ll both die! Don’t go!”

David Clark glared fiercely and shouted, “Don’t jump! Go! If I can see my brother alive one more time, I’m already satisfied! Go!”

“Screw you! That’s my brother!” William Carter kicked away Lauren Harris’s wrist. David Clark’s veins bulged all over his body, his eyes wide and tearing as he screamed, “Get out! Screw you! I’m not your brother! Get out! If you die, I won’t acknowledge you even if I go down there! Don’t let me die in vain!”

Two streams of bloody tears ran down William Carter’s rugged cheeks from the corners of his eyes. With the little blade left in his hand, he suddenly slashed it across his chest.

Throwing away the scrap of metal in his hand, William Carter wiped the hot blood flowing from his chest and pointed proudly at Avenger, shouting, “Avenger! I, William Carter, swear here and now! I will spend my life killing every last member of the zombie race!”

Under the tragic red clouds of sunset, Avenger saw the proud look on William Carter’s face and suddenly felt that the other man seemed much taller, involuntarily shivering with a chill he’d never felt before.

Kill him! Kill him! Kill him! If I don’t kill him today, he’ll surely kill me in the future! Avenger heard a nearly crazed voice screaming in his mind, and his body shivered again. At this point, he no longer cared whether subduing William Carter would make him unwilling to submit after killing David Clark.

“Let go!” Avenger grabbed David Clark’s arms with both hands and exerted force. David Clark let out a shrill, miserable scream, his ten fingers locked tightly and refusing to let go. William Carter clenched his fists and stared up at the scene, listening to the agonized cries from this iron-willed man who had never before screamed from pain.

He wanted to remember this scene, remember this sound, remember how powerless he was at this moment—so powerless that all he could do was watch his comrade give his life to save him.

Humiliation, guilt, rage, heartbreak! All kinds of emotions flooded William Carter’s mind, and a bloodthirsty killing intent was once again awakened within him.

“Ahhhhhhhhhh!” William Carter threw his head back and let out a wild, hoarse roar.

The car suddenly jolted, and Lauren Harris shouted, “So many zombies! William Carter, help! There’s another weapon under the canvas!”

William Carter mechanically pulled back the canvas, a ferocious grin appearing on his face as he lifted the sixteen-kilogram stainless steel electric chainsaw with both hands!

William Carter yanked the chainsaw’s starter, no longer looking at the suffering David Clark. This was time bought with his brother’s life, and it shouldn’t be wasted here.

Standing on the hood of the jeep, William Carter swung the roaring electric chainsaw in his hands. The zombies’ strong bodies were pitifully weak before the spinning blade.

The chainsaw’s motor roared, William Carter laughed wildly as he swung it, blood and tears streaming down his face, and zombies fell one after another to his laughter.

Avenger saw William Carter’s car break through the zombie encirclement and speed away. Furious, he grabbed David Clark’s arms and roared, “Let go—!”

Suddenly, Avenger stopped trying to pry apart David Clark’s arms, turning in surprise to look at the now-unconscious David Clark, who had fainted from pain. “You’re a superhuman too? I didn’t expect you to be a superhuman as well.”

“Unbelievable, truly unbelievable. Today I actually encountered two potential superhumans—one in a million—and both with immense potential.” A hint of joy appeared on Avenger’s face as he looked at David Clark and said, “In that case, become a zombie superhuman. I’ll bite you myself and change your genetic sequence.”

The unconscious David Clark let out a faint groan. Avenger looked with satisfaction at the human he had bitten, then glanced in the direction where William Carter had long since disappeared and murmured, “If he can’t be used by me, then he must be killed! To think he’s a rare bomb-type superhuman. Aside from the legendary Superhuman King, I’ve never heard of anyone else with bomb powers. I must eliminate him before he learns to use superhuman energy! Such a monster with limitless potential must be destroyed early! Looks like I need to notify the others to hunt him down.”
