How many zombies can one person kill before reaching their limit? Just one or two? Or ten, maybe twenty? Three more warriors beside Brian Bolton had already died, but William Carter showed no sign of stopping his slaughter of the zombies. In just a short time, Brian Bolton calculated that William Carter had already taken down more than thirty zombies.
Broken corpses were scattered around William Carter, forming obstacles like rocks. One zombie hadn’t even reached William Carter before it tripped over the remains of another and fell to the ground. William Carter mercilessly stomped on its head, smashing it to pieces.
A sudden roar thundered across the entire tribe, a roar filled with boundless rage. The zombies attacking the people shuddered, then all turned to look at the figure standing atop the wall, the one who had let out the roar.
Under the setting sun, the sky was stained blood-red. A “human” with explosive muscles, standing over two meters tall, stood proudly atop the tribe’s wall.
Brian Bolton swallowed hard, despair showing in his eyes. “Asura... Asura-class...”
Chapter 5: The Return of Superpowers (Part 1)
The fewer than ten young men beside Brian Bolton turned pale as soon as they heard the name, their eyes filling with despair and terror. “Asura-class? That’s the legendary Asura-class? The kind that only the strongest superhumans can fight? Aren’t we doomed?”
William Carter instinctively sensed the zombies had stopped attacking and snapped out of his killing frenzy. The murderous intent that had surged from deep within gradually faded. William Carter gasped for breath, his arms cramping slightly from overexertion. Seeing the despair on the young men’s faces, he quickly asked, “What’s an Asura-class?”
Brian Bolton looked at William Carter in despair and said dejectedly, “A zombie that’s almost at the very top of the food chain. It has human intelligence, can speak, and its body is as tough as steel, making it nearly immune to any cold weapons. Only the strongest superhumans can stand against it. Normally, you’d never see a zombie like this—many people go their whole lives without encountering one. Only true powerhouses even know the name. I guess I’m lucky; I saw one once before…”
The Asura-class was angry, furious! William Carter could feel the emotions of this monster he was seeing for the first time. Even though they were separated by several hundred meters, William Carter could clearly sense the creature’s rage.
That battlefield-honed, almost mystical intuition let William Carter sense just how much stronger the enemy was than any ordinary person.
“No matter how strong the enemy is, if they want me dead, they’ll have to pay for it with at least a couple of teeth.” William Carter slapped the hand David Clark offered and said, “Bro, the Poison Wolf’s style won’t change, not even in fifty years.”
“That’s right!” David Clark said excitedly. Since waking up, his spirit had been crushed, but now, in this moment, the old pride surged back into his heart.
Brian Bolton shook his head weakly, the corners of his mouth twitching, his eyes already losing their former fierce confidence. “You don’t understand. You have no idea how powerful the Asura-class is. In front of it, ordinary people are no different from ants.”
William Carter shot a look of disgust at Brian Bolton, who was crushing everyone’s morale, and retorted, “Even the strongest ant can make a human feel pain when it bites, can’t it?”
The Asura-class let out another roar. The zombies that had been standing motionless suddenly began to move again, retreating, as a group of stronger, more agile zombies leapt forward.
Without waiting for them to attack, William Carter lunged forward, swinging his fire axe down at a zombie’s skull.
A spray of brain matter burst out just like with the previous zombies, but this time, William Carter’s axe didn’t split the zombie in two as usual. The axe stopped at its abdomen. Another zombie lunged at him, but William Carter kicked it away, immediately noticing that this batch of zombies was much tougher than the last.
With two screams, two young men fell prey to the zombies. Brian Bolton hacked down a zombie and shouted in surprise, “First-stage evolved zombies? The Asura-class actually has so many of them?”
“Evolved zombies?” William Carter swung his fire axe again, splitting another zombie in half as he shouted, “So what? They’re still just zombies!”
William Carter’s swing looked impressive, but only he knew that it had taken everything he had to split that zombie in two. The evolved zombies weren’t as worthless as he made them sound.
Evolved zombies had bodies that were clearly stronger than ordinary ones, but their intelligence hadn’t improved at all. Seeing their comrades brutally killed, they showed no fear and all charged at William Carter.
“Let’s do this!” The fire axe, whistling with the sound of death, smashed open a zombie’s skull. William Carter’s blood boiled instantly, burning like fire. The world around him seemed to slow down again, the fading murderous intent flooding his body once more. His breathing grew rapid, like a wild beast attacking its prey.
