Louis Carter wasn’t sure if, following the plot, in this more realistic world, Jill—who drove off the building with the pursuer—could still survive.
The mission didn’t require him to protect Jill, but the values he’d developed in his previous life made it impossible for him to just stand by and watch.
Besides, facing the pursuer head-on had earned him a decent reward: increased strength.
Chapter 4 Fully Armed
“Hey~!”
The soldier on the street kept waving at those upstairs, and after catching the attention of Jill and the others, he gestured for them to come down.
Jill and Bradley Harris exchanged a glance.
After the helicopter crash, they had no idea what to do next, so they might as well see what this soldier had in mind.
Louis Carter knew that the man below was the main character of this game, Carl Oliver. Next, he would team up with Jill, and at the end, the two of them would leave Raccoon City together.
At this moment, Carl and his comrades were working hard to find survivors and bring them to the subway station. Afterward, they would try to get the subway running again, planning to escape by train—but in the story, this plan failed.
Because of an attack by the pursuer, the subway derailed and exploded, and only Jill survived (at the time, Carl and another mercenary, Terrell Grant, were not on the train).
Returning from the rooftop to the ground, Carl greeted Jill and the others: “Are you all right?
Is anyone hurt?”
“No!”
Jill glanced at Bradley Harris and Louis Carter. Although things had been dangerous just now, no one was injured, thanks to Louis Carter’s quick reactions and timely, correct decisions.
Carl looked over the three of them and saw that indeed, none were hurt. “Come with me, I’ll take you somewhere safe.”
Compared to the original plot, where Jill drove off the rooftop and was so dazed she couldn’t care about anything else, now all three were still healthy, and no one would just follow a stranger at a word.
“Who are you?”
As Jill sized him up, she noticed the insignia on Carl’s uniform. “You’re with Umbrella?”
“Yes, I’m a member of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service, UBCS for short. My teammates and I are here to deal with this incident.
The situation is much worse than expected, so our mission has changed to searching for and rescuing survivors…” Carl hadn’t finished speaking when he noticed the woman in the blue vest and the man in the yellow vest across from him both looked extremely grim.
Jill went so far as to curse outright: “Are you freaking kidding me?
All of this is your fault!”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!
What are you talking about?”
Carl spread his hands, looking completely baffled. “We’re here to help you.”
Jill curled her lip, about to say something, when Louis Carter beside her suddenly gave her shoulder a gentle pat. She could only turn to look at Louis Carter. “What is it?”
“Let’s get out of here first. I have a feeling that thing could get up at any moment.”
Louis Carter nodded toward the still-burning pursuer not far away. He knew that thing would regain mobility, and staying here was not a good idea—especially now that the rocket launcher was out of ammo.
Jill also turned to look at the pursuer. The flames on the monster’s body had shrunk considerably, and they could once again see the huge figure in the firelight—after taking two rocket hits, it didn’t seem to have suffered any real damage. This was really bad.
“Follow me!”
Carl had noticed this too and motioned for them to come with him. “Hey, I don’t know what misunderstanding there is, but we really are the good guys. My teammates and I have been rescuing survivors all over the city.”
Jill and Bradley Harris didn’t waste much time hesitating and followed him directly.
Louis Carter was even less likely to hesitate. Even though he’d gained a strength boost as a reward, he didn’t think that, as someone who was originally just an ordinary person, a little extra strength would let him take on the pursuer head-on.
Still, he was curious—just how much had his strength increased?
Unfortunately, they didn’t encounter even a single zombie along the way, and arrived at the subway station safely.
“The subway station?”
Jill looked curiously at Carl leading the way ahead.
“My teammates and I have turned the subway into a temporary shelter. There are a lot of survivors here.”
Carl glanced around. It was very quiet, with no sign of any monsters, and since they’d already cleared out the inside of the station, they could relax a little.
But after entering the subway station, they found the main entrance was actually sealed off, so a frustrated Carl could only lead them through a side door. “Looks like we’ll have to take a detour.”
“Oh, right!
I haven’t introduced myself. My name is Carl Oliver, and I’m a member of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service.”
Carl led the way in front, introducing himself as he went.
“Jill Valentine, Raccoon City Police.”
“Bradley Vicks, I’m Jill’s colleague.”
Carl looked at Jill in surprise. He really hadn’t expected this beautiful woman to be a police officer. As for Bradley Harris, his vest and the insignia on his clothes already made his identity clear.
