Chapter 16

“From the previous battles, we can tell that the weapons in our hands can hurt that thing. Although we can't kill it, we can make it stop moving for a while.”

Louis Carter's idea was simple: “Hit it until it can't move, then we head to the hospital...

It would be best if we could resupply some weapons and ammo along the way.”

“The police station isn't far from here. We can go there first.”

Louis Carter's plan sounded highly feasible; now it was just a matter of whether they could pull it off.

“Let's go!”

They left the subway company, took out the few special zombies at the entrance, and hadn't gone far before they saw the Nemesis on the street playing 'zombie modification'—it grabbed a zombie's head, and the tentacles extending from its arm wrapped around the zombie's head. When the Nemesis let go, the material covering the zombie's head exploded, turning it into one of those special zombies.

“What a scene... I don't even know how to describe it.” While complaining, he pulled the trigger, and a grenade shot out from the launcher under the barrel, landing precisely at the Nemesis's feet.

Right after that, Jill threw a grenade—her last one—then raised her shotgun and kept pouring firepower, bang!

Bang!

The sound kept ringing out.

After firing two grenades, Louis Carter pulled the trigger and emptied all his bullets into the Nemesis. With his strength boosted twice, he could better handle the gun's recoil, and since the Nemesis was a big target, every bullet hit.

He stepped forward a bit, aiming specifically at the Nemesis's head and firing wildly. When he ran out of bullets, Louis Carter loaded an incendiary round and fired it at the Nemesis's head.

Boom!

Fierce flames instantly engulfed the Nemesis, and its massive body fell again. At the same time, a glowing orb appeared and was obtained by Louis Carter: Constitution Boost!

“Hm?”

His now-familiar reloading motion paused for a moment. Louis Carter thought it would be another strength boost, or maybe a small strength boost, but unexpectedly, it turned out to be a constitution boost.

“I wonder what it'll be next time?”

“What are you thinking about?”

“Nothing!”

“It must be something you can't tell anyone!”

Earlier, Jill suspected Louis Carter was an agent sent by the authorities. Now she was starting to wonder if Louis Carter was a corporate spy sent by Umbrella's competitors?

The way this guy looked at the Nemesis was a bit strange.

She could never have guessed that Louis Carter saw the Nemesis as a walking stat reward, eagerly looking forward to what he might get next time they met.

“How far is the police station?”

“Not very far...” Even though she knew Louis Carter was changing the subject, Jill still answered.

At their pace, it would only take a short time to reach the police station.

She had just spoken when she saw a few people running toward them: “Carl?

Bradley Harris?”

It was Carl and Bradley Harris, along with another Black soldier.

“Jill, are you okay?”

Bradley Harris was fully armed now, and he clearly breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Jill. It was obvious he cared a lot about his teammate.

“I’m fine, thank you for your concern, Bradley Harris.”

As fellow STARS survivors, Bradley Harris was one of the few friends Jill had left: “How did you guys get here?

Has the subway started?”

“We were worried about you, so we came to check. Now that we see you’re okay, we can relax.”

Carl briefly explained the situation: “The subway has already left. Mikhail will take the surviving citizens to the park, then look for a chance to leave Raccoon City or find another safe area.”

As for why Carl and Tyrell didn’t leave together, actually, even without Jill's situation, they had other tasks to complete.

Louis Carter knew that Carl and Tyrell were going to find a researcher. Their UBCS unit had missions to rescue Umbrella’s senior technical staff in Raccoon City.

In reality, though, the so-called rescue was just a cover for elimination. Ordinary mercenaries like Carl didn’t know this, but once they found these people, the observers hidden in the team would take care of the cleanup—Carl finally found Nathaniel Bard, only to discover Dr. Bard had already been killed.

“I’m heading to the police station now. What about you guys?”

After understanding the situation, Jill shared her and Louis Carter's plan: go to the police station first to resupply ammo and gear, then head to Raccoon City Hospital to use liquid nitrogen to kill the Nemesis.

“Perfect, we got information that a very important scientist might be in the Raccoon City Police Department. We need to go there and find this person.”

Carl's target was also the police station.

“Looks like we can move together. That should give us a better chance of winning!”

Knowing they could act together, Bradley Harris was very happy.

More people meant more firepower, making it easier to take down the Nemesis—in Jill's explanation, everyone now knew that enough firepower could make that monster stop moving for a while.

“Let’s pick up the pace, while that thing still can’t move!”
