Returning to the control room, they restored power to the subway, but that alone did not bring the subway back to life. They still needed to go to the subway company to fix the traffic control system. Only after resetting the subway lines could the subway be restarted.
Before leaving the substation, Louis Carter loaded grenades into the grenade launcher and made sure the grenades on his person could be quickly accessed.
Jill, who had been secretly observing Louis Carter, realized something upon seeing his actions. But as the two of them walked out of the substation and saw that tall figure across from them, Jill still cursed inwardly.
“It's that damn thing again!”
“Yeah!”
Louis Carter was very glad he had watched the walkthrough videos several times. Since the story hadn’t deviated much yet, he could prepare in advance.
Aiming at the slowly approaching Nemesis, he immediately greeted it with grenades.
Nemesis is a type of bioweapon. In fact, bioweapons don’t have much of an advantage against modern weapons. In Resident Evil, monsters like Nemesis and Tyrant create a huge sense of oppression mainly because the protagonists have to face them alone and lack heavy weaponry.
Even so, as long as they have enough weapons and ammo, they can still fight these monsters head-on and win.
So what Louis Carter needed to do was simple: don’t be stingy with ammo—use whatever he had and throw everything at it.
If two grenades weren’t enough, then four; if four weren’t enough, then eight. Louis Carter specifically asked for this equipment mainly to deal with this guy.
The rumbling and booming sounds continued, and under the concentrated fire, Nemesis soon dropped to its knees and stopped moving.
“Did we take care of it?”
Jill threw all her grenades, and her shotgun shells rained down on Nemesis as if they were free. If possible, she hoped this thing would never get up again.
Louis Carter was also reloading his gun. Looking at the motionless Nemesis not far away, he felt happy about his “power boost” and began to think about how to completely destroy this monster.
“It probably isn’t done for!
This thing doesn’t look like it’s taken any serious damage.”
Nemesis has strong defense and recovery abilities. In its current state, it’s only temporarily incapacitated. After a while, it will get up and continue hunting Jill.
“If we want to completely eliminate this monster, we’ll have to think of another way.”
Louis Carter took the opportunity to say what he’d been planning for a while: “Otherwise, there’s a chance this damn thing could attack us while we’re on the subway and cause an accident.”
Jill thought of this too. She couldn’t ignore the fact that this thing was specifically sent to hunt her and Bradley Harris. If she boarded the subway in this situation, she’d be putting the other survivors at risk.
“What do you have in mind?”
“Is there a steel mill in Raccoon City?”
To deal with a monster that’s tough and has strong regeneration, extremely high or low temperatures are both solutions: “Or do you know where we can get a large amount of liquid nitrogen?”
“There’s liquid nitrogen in a lot of places.”
Jill glanced at Nemesis not far away, already understanding Louis Carter’s meaning. “Hospitals usually store liquid nitrogen, but I’m not sure if there’s enough.”
The problem was how to get enough liquid nitrogen onto Nemesis.
By comparison, the steel mill seemed simpler—just knock Nemesis into the steel furnace.
“Let’s go to the subway company first, then we’ll deal with this monster.”
Jill had already made up her mind. She was determined to eliminate this monster first and absolutely would not bring danger to innocent people.
“Jill, do you copy?”
At this moment, the walkie-talkie crackled—it was Carl’s routine check-in, confirming Jill’s current status: if everything was going smoothly, that was best; if Jill ran into trouble, Carl and the others would have to decide whether to mount a rescue—
Or send someone else to complete Jill’s mission.
“All’s well. We’ve restored power to the subway.”
After reporting the situation, Carl confirmed and told Jill to finish setting the subway route and hurry back to the station.
“I’m not going back to the subway station. There’s something else here I need to handle. Once the subway is powered up, you all just leave on it.”
“What?
Jill!
What happened?”
Besides Carl’s voice, Bradley Harris’s inquiry also came through the walkie-talkie.
“Nemesis, that monster—it was sent by Umbrella specifically to hunt me. If I don’t deal with this damn thing, everyone on the subway will be in danger.”
“Jill, you can finish setting the subway route and then come straight back to the station.
We can start the subway and leave before that monster catches up to you!”
Bradley Harris seemed to have grabbed the walkie-talkie, and his suggestion was indeed somewhat feasible.
No matter how fast Nemesis is, it’s still humanoid. Normally, no one would think it could catch up to a moving subway.
But as long as there’s even a slight chance, Jill wasn’t willing to risk innocent citizens.
“By the way, Bradley Harris, whatever you do, don’t leave the subway station!”
