On the way to the police station, Louis Carter shared his ‘observation’: “Next time we encounter him, he might be even harder to take down!”
Hearing this, everyone felt the situation had become even more urgent, and their pace unconsciously quickened.
But Louis Carter was thinking about something else: this time, the reward given by the stalker had been ‘downgraded’: a slight increase in constitution.
“So it seems that even special monsters like the stalker have a limit on the number of times…
And we still don’t know if all ‘new monsters’ can give rewards, or if there are other requirements?”
Louis Carter felt this mechanism was a lot like a game. If it really was similar to game mechanics, then maybe monsters that are too weak—even if you haven’t encountered them before—still wouldn’t give rewards.
“I’m still an ordinary person right now. There shouldn’t be any monsters weaker than me, right?”
Before Louis Carter could come up with an answer, the group had already arrived at the police station, where they ran into a Raccoon City police officer at the entrance.
“Marvin Howard?”
“Jill?”
The group’s sudden appearance startled Marvin Howard. When he saw that they weren’t zombies, and that two of them were familiar faces, Marvin Howard let out a long sigh of relief, then slumped down on the steps in front of the police station, completely exhausted.
“I never thought I’d see you again.”
Marvin Howard-Branagh glanced at Jill and Bradley Harris. Both of these colleagues had already been suspended, and no one would have expected that the report they submitted together with Christopher Allen—which read like a horror story—would actually turn out to be true: “And you, Bradley Harris…”
If anyone in the Raccoon City Police Department knew how to deal with the current situation, it would definitely be these two in front of him.
“And these people are…?”
From the first signs of the biohazard in Raccoon City to its full outbreak, not much time had passed. During this period, the police department had been fighting on the front lines. Although they had encountered UBCS soldiers, most people didn’t know who these people belonged to, and the dire situation left them in no mood for small talk.
“We’re the Umbrella Corporation’s Biohazard Emergency Response Team. We’re here in Raccoon City on a rescue mission.”
Carl briefly introduced himself and Terrell Grant: “We’ve already evacuated a group of citizens. Terrell Grant and I came to the police station to look for a scientist. According to our information, this scientist is very important—he may hold the key to a vaccine for this virus.”
Marvin Howard nodded. He didn’t really care about their identities and just asked out of habit. He still preferred talking to people he knew. Turning to Jill: “So, you’re working together?”
“For now, yes!”
She reached out to pull Marvin Howard up: “There are some other things going on. Let’s talk inside the station—this isn’t the place for a chat.”
“No problem. You’re the commander now, after all, you know best what to do in a situation like this.”
Having regained some strength, Marvin Howard stood up again, and everyone entered the Raccoon City Police Department together.
As soon as they walked in, they saw the chaotic main hall, with not a single person in sight.
There was no need to ask—the scene before them made it clear just how bad things were at the Raccoon City Police Department: doors and windows sealed shut, warning tape and cardboard plastered everywhere, bloodstains all over, and debris scattered everywhere.
“Are the weapons and ammo supplies in the station running low?”
Carl looked at the situation in front of him, a bit worried about whether they’d be able to restock their ammo as planned.
If they couldn’t get enough ammo, their next plan would have to be adjusted.
“To deal with this crisis, the weapons and ammo in the station have been distributed to various locations, so officers can resupply nearby…
But more than one officer has reported that the weapons and ammo aren’t enough, and I don’t know where some of the heavy firepower has been moved to.”
“Son of a bitch!”
Jill immediately realized what had happened from Marvin Howard’s description: it had to be Brian Irons (the Raccoon City Police Chief), that bastard, doing it on purpose!
Their goal of resupplying ammo had hit a snag. Now, they could only gather as much as possible while also searching for Nathaniel Bard.
If they couldn’t find him, they at least needed to figure out whether this scientist was dead or alive—and if alive, where he was hiding.
“I’m not really sure. The station has been in total chaos lately. Even if the person you’re looking for came here to take shelter, I have no idea about his situation now.”
Marvin Howard couldn’t offer any help. All he could do was lead the group through the station, heading to the ‘ammo storage points’ to gather weapons and ammo, and see if there were any clues about the scientist along the way.
Nothing much happened along the way. Even when a Licker appeared, it didn’t cause this heavily armed team any trouble at all. Louis Carter added a new name to the list of monsters he’d killed and received an agility boost as a reward.
“Strength, agility, constitution…
I wonder what other attributes there are?”
After almost turning the whole station upside down, the group gathered all the weapons they could find. In addition to his original M4A1 and Glock pistol, Louis Carter also found a Desert Eagle.
