Although there were quite a few people, and everyone was fully armed, Bradley Harris still felt uneasy. If it weren't for the need to conserve his energy, he would have wanted to run straight to the police station in one go.
"Actually, it would be better if it caught up to us. That way, when we resupply our ammo, we wouldn't have to worry about that monster suddenly bursting in."
Louis Carter made a suggestion: "We could set up an ambush at the entrance of the police station, buy ourselves enough time, and also stock up on more ammo."
"What a crazy idea..." The monster they could barely avoid before, now they wanted to actively ambush it?
Bradley Harris thought this guy might not be quite right in the head.
What drove him crazy was that, except for himself, everyone else seemed a bit abnormal too.
Chapter 9 Black Hawk
Jill and Carl both agreed with Louis Carter's suggestion. They all thought that instead of passively being ambushed by the pursuer, it would be better to set up an ambush themselves when fully prepared.
If they ambushed the pursuer outside the police station and took it down, they could replenish the ammo they used from inside the station. But if they encountered the pursuer again after leaving the station, who knew where they could get more ammo.
"We're not far from the police station now. How about here?"
Carl surveyed the surroundings. This place was suitable for an ambush, with shops and tall buildings nearby, and even a manhole cover for the sewer. If anything unexpected happened, they would have plenty of escape routes.
"Let's do it here!"
Jill didn't object. As the one most familiar with Raccoon City's layout, she also thought this was a good spot for an ambush.
"What next?"
Carl's teammate Terrell Grant looked around. "Should we set up some kind of position?"
Of those present, Jill had fought the pursuer the most times, so everyone turned their attention to her. Noticing this, Jill instead turned to look at Louis Carter.
"What do you think?"
"Why are you asking me?"
Louis Carter was loading grenades and handed the unused grenades to Jill: "Whatever works. Judging from our previous encounters, as long as we focus our fire the moment the pursuer appears, it shouldn't have a chance to attack us before going down!"
Louis Carter's words left the two soldiers speechless, and even more so Bradley Harris. He had been chased by the pursuer even before Jill encountered it, and it had taken all his tricks just to escape. He had never thought about facing such a monster head-on.
He never expected that in less than half a day, he would actually have to stand in front of that kind of monster and engage it directly...
Why hadn't he run away yet?
If it were the old him, he would have run far away by now, right?
"I must be crazy!"
Everyone had already found their own positions, not far from each other, making it easy to provide mutual support and rescue, while not interfering with their own ability to dodge.
Bradley Harris was not far from Jill, with a shotgun laid out in front of him and a grenade in his hand. "Are we really doing this?
There's still time to change our minds."
"It's too late, Bradley Harris!"
Jill gripped the grenade Louis Carter had given her: "That thing is already here!"
Bradley Harris turned to look, and the tall figure gradually became clear in his line of sight. "Shit, what's that thing in its hand?"
"A rocket launcher?"
Carl was just about to ask what was going on when he heard a 'thump!' not far away. He immediately realized this was no time for talking, yanked the pin from his grenade, and threw it with all his strength.
Terrell Grant, Jill, and Bradley Harris all did the same in quick succession. From a distance, several small black dots landed near the pursuer one after another, followed by a series of booming explosions.
Before the sound of the explosions had faded, a flash of fire shot out from the blast. Fortunately, everyone was fully focused on this side and immediately noticed the pursuer's counterattack.
"Dodge!"
Except for Louis Carter, who was cursing in his heart, "Why me?", everyone else shouted warnings. But even as they called out, Louis Carter was already dodging.
Boom!
Louis Carter reacted quickly, with enough explosive power to leap out of the blast radius in time. Although he was shaken by the shockwave, he was otherwise unharmed. The biggest loss was that he didn't have time to grab the longsword by his side, which was probably destroyed.
That was the only attack the pursuer managed to launch. Under the concentrated fire, the pursuer quickly went down, precisely because everyone was pouring out firepower like mad.
"Let's hope this guy stays down for a while!"
If possible, Bradley Harris would have liked to kill the pursuer while it was incapacitated. But aside from the molten steel and liquid nitrogen Jill mentioned, he couldn't think of anything else that could kill this monster—heavy weapons might do it, but they didn't have any on hand.
"While this thing can't move, let's head to the police station right away!"
Jill checked her remaining ammo. She had barely used any pistol rounds, but had gone through quite a few shotgun shells, and was out of grenades.
The others were in about the same situation. If they couldn't resupply grenades or launchers at the police station, just relying on firearms would make the next encounter with the pursuer very troublesome.
"This damn thing is getting tougher."
