In the original storyline, Jill boarded the subway, but during the journey, the train was attacked by The Pursuer. In the end, only Jill survived. After an intense battle with The Pursuer, Jill was struck by The Pursuer's tentacle, infected by the virus, and lost consciousness.
Before the battle, Carl received a communication from Jill and learned that something had happened to the subway. At that time, Carl was at the Raccoon City Police Department and immediately started heading toward Jill's location.
It took Carl half a day to reach where Jill was, and then he carried the unconscious Jill to a nearby hospital, which happened to be the one where Dr. Bard worked.
Thinking of this, Louis Carter couldn't help but complain about The Pursuer in his mind: Jill lay there for half a day and you actually lay there with her for half a day too? What happened to your invincible regenerative abilities?
Normally, The Pursuer should have recovered much earlier and could have done whatever he wanted while Jill was unconscious, right?
In any case, it takes at least half a day to get from the police station to the hospital where Bard is.
Considering that Carl was rushing at full speed and wouldn't encounter any ambushes or interference from The Pursuer or the like, his speed should have been faster than this group.
In other words, for this group to reach their destination, it would take more than half a day.
They couldn't rely on any vehicles; the streets of Raccoon City were in utter chaos. The police department had fought countless battles with zombies on the streets, and one barrier after another had split the city streets into a mess. With all the accidents and traffic jams, now in Raccoon City, you couldn't even ride a bicycle, let alone drive a car.
The only thing they could rely on was their own two legs. Louis Carter once again felt the improvement in his own physical abilities; the increase in endurance allowed him to keep up with the others who had undergone rigorous training. Because Louis Carter could keep up with their pace, the team's marching speed was guaranteed.
"I was worried you wouldn't be able to keep up with us."
Carl had originally planned to help Louis Carter with some of the load if necessary. Right now, everyone was carrying a lot of weapons and ammunition, and for an ordinary person like Louis Carter, it would be hard to march quickly while carrying so much. Unexpectedly, Louis Carter's strength and stamina were quite good—not only did he not fall behind, he didn't even show the slightest sign of fatigue.
"I'm fine."
Louis Carter checked his current physical condition; it was about the same as when he used to work out regularly in his previous life, which was when he was at his physical peak.
With his agility now boosted several times over and his strength greatly increased, Louis Carter's physical fitness had already completely surpassed his former self.
He had only been in this world for less than a day and had already improved so much, which made Louis Carter even more excited for his future—of course, maybe it was just that his starting point was so low that the improvement seemed huge?
Louis Carter decided not to dwell on this unpleasant thought; as long as he was getting stronger, that was enough.
He didn't care about things like "whether getting stronger by adding points would have hidden dangers"—this was a life he had gotten for free, so he should be content with things getting better and better.
Besides, as someone who loved novels, anime, movies, and games, now that he was getting "main character" treatment, if he didn't enjoy it and instead worried about all sorts of things, wouldn't that be a waste of this rare opportunity?
In the past, even if he lay down in front of a steamroller and flattened himself into a 2D version, he would never have had the chance to meet Jill Valentine, let alone talk to her like this.
"Do you need me to carry your backpack?"
Everyone was carrying a bag with ammo and water inside, and Jill's backpack was no smaller than anyone else's.
"Thanks, but no need. I've had professional training."
Bradley Harris chimed in from the side, "You know, Jill trained with Delta—she's not someone just anyone can handle."
"It was just bomb disposal training..." Jill cut off Bradley Harris to stop him from saying anything else ridiculous. "If you have the energy to chat, you'd better pick up the pace so we can get to the hospital sooner.
Don't worry about me keeping up...
And don't worry about this guy keeping up either."
The last two sentences were directed at Carl, who was leading the group. Of course, Carl had no reason to object: "Alright, everyone pick up the pace. Let's try to reach our destination within half a day."
Their pace suddenly quickened, but after an hour of walking, they had to stop.
"This damn thing, does it have some kind of tracking device?"
Bradley Harris got a headache just seeing The Pursuer, but fortunately, with enough companions around, he had the confidence to keep fighting.
"I don't know, you should ask Umbrella!"
Jill pulled out a grenade launcher and fired grenade after grenade at The Pursuer. This weapon was much more effective than submachine guns or shotguns.
Louis Carter then drew the Desert Eagle he had just gotten, first shooting off the tentacle wrapped around Marvin Howard's calf, then firing the remaining seven rounds (the .44 caliber Desert Eagle holds eight rounds) all at The Pursuer.
This weapon, designed for hunting large animals, was perfect for dealing with this kind of bioweapon. Unfortunately, Louis Carter had to use both hands to hold the gun, or else the powerful recoil would send the bullets flying who knows where.
