Finally, his gaze settled on Louis Carter. Could he be a Raccoon City police officer as well?
“Louis Carter!”
Louis Carter casually made up an identity for himself: “Just passing through Raccoon City while traveling.”
Carl’s expression turned rather odd. “Then you really have terrible luck.”
In their eyes, for Louis Carter to be passing through Raccoon City and end up encountering a biohazard crisis—such an extremely rare event—his luck was truly abysmal!
“We’re here!”
After just a few words, everyone had already arrived at the subway platform. The train was right there, and they could see many people inside the cars. Only now did Jill fully believe what Carl had said earlier: the subway had been converted into a shelter!
Before this, she had always suspected that Carl, this Umbrella “lackey,” was trying to lure them somewhere secluded to kill them.
Upon entering the subway, an old soldier with a heavy accent recognized Jill and Bradley Harris—members of the elite STARS unit of the Raccoon City Police Department.
After introducing himself as Michael Victor, he gave Jill a brief rundown of the situation: the team had suffered heavy losses, and although they had rescued quite a few survivors, they didn’t have enough manpower to restart the subway.
“If we can restore power to the subway, we can evacuate the survivors.”
The old soldier Michael Victor hoped Jill could help: “We need your help.”
Jill was a person with a strong sense of justice and responsibility. After glancing at the survivors in the adjacent car, she agreed without any hesitation.
“All right, what do you need me to do?”
“Jill!”
Bradley Harris objected to this. He felt that getting out of Raccoon City as soon as possible was the most important thing right now!
Save people?
How could they save others when they couldn’t even protect themselves?
“There’s some rations and clean water here.”
Ignoring the quiet argument between Jill and Bradley Harris, Louis Carter, who had been sitting quietly to the side, stood up and took food and water out of his backpack. “Everyone can have something to eat first, and the rest can be given to those in need.”
At the same time, he also took out two boxes of ammunition and asked Michael in front of him, “You’re not short on weapons here, are you?”
“What do you want?”
Michael didn’t understand what this young man was after.
Was he scared by the monsters outside and wanted more weapons to protect himself?
“It’s safe here. We’ll protect you!”
“I’ll help with restoring the subway’s power as well, but I’ll need some equipment.”
This was also why he took out the food and water from his backpack—it was inconvenient to move around with a heavy load.
Besides, these soldiers should have spare equipment: whether taken from fallen teammates or gathered elsewhere.
“Although I’d really like to say...
It’s better to leave this kind of thing to the professionals, but we really do need more hands.”
Michael and Carl exchanged a look, then signaled for someone to bring some equipment for Louis Carter.
“There probably aren’t any real professionals for this kind of thing, are there?”
The Raccoon City incident was the first large-scale biohazard outbreak in this world. Most people had never experienced anything like it.
If you really wanted to talk about professionals, it would be the two survivors beside him who had been through the mansion incident, and a handful of others not currently in Raccoon City, like Christopher Allen, Rebecca Clark, and Barry Miller. However, not many people knew this.
“You’re not wrong.”
Michael gave a bitter laugh, which tugged at his wounds, so he stopped talking. At this point, Carl came over to Louis Carter carrying various pieces of equipment.
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
“I’m absolutely sure!”
How else could he get stronger if he didn’t go out and fight monsters?
Besides, Louis Carter needed to go out and gather some things to prepare for the future.
More importantly, staying here wouldn’t make things any safer, nor would it help him complete his mission.
Even though the subway was successfully started, it never managed to leave Raccoon City, and only Jill survived among the passengers.
With an explosion and derailment of that magnitude, if he stayed on the subway, his chances of dying would be much higher than surviving.
To change that, he’d either have to not get on the subway himself, or find a way to keep Jill off the train and lure the Nemesis elsewhere.
Fiddling with the equipment Carl handed over, Louis Carter studied how to put it on, and his actions left Carl speechless.
“You really have no idea how to use this, do you?”
As he put on the tactical vest and checked what weapons he had, Louis Carter shook his head very straightforwardly. “This is my first time handling this stuff.”
“……” Carl was speechless at Louis Carter’s answer and thought he was just looking for trouble. “Honestly, you don’t have to do this. Staying on the subway might be better.”
“No, I think this is better.”
After putting on the tactical vest, Louis Carter checked his weapons and ammo: one Glock pistol, ten magazines, plus two extra boxes of bullets, which he put in one of his two waist pouches; the other pouch held hemostatic powder and bandages.
